2 CABINS KANGAROO ISLAND
KANGAROO ISLAND SAThe brief was for two holiday cabins, with minimal site intrusion on a remote coastal site on Kangaroo Island. The project was designed to take into account the extreme bush fire risk (BAL-FZ), and the proximity to the southern ocean. The cabins are to be built off site in Kingscote and transported to site in 4 modules due to the remote location and to reduce the impact of construction on the ecologically fragile site.The palette of materials includes:Recycled corrugated iron claddingTimber OSB board internal linings
UPVC double glazed windows & doors
Concrete block base in natural finish
BAL FZ Fire shutters to all openings
The building includes the following sustainable design elements:Low Impact on site & existing terrain to minimise cut and fillMinimalist designRainwater capture and reuse for whole of houseWindow and door placement to capture sea breezes & winter sun
